ESR Hosts Alan Kolp as Friend in Residence

10/12/2009 - 4:32pm
10/16/2009 - 4:32pm

Former ESR Dean Alan Kolp will be on campus the week of October 12th as Friend in Residence. He will participate in two public events during that week that we would like to encourage you to attend:

*Common Meal*
October 13, 11:20-1 pm

“Contemplation: A Quaker Pastoral Academic Benedictine Oblate’s Perspective”

Alan arrived from Germany to ESR in August, 1974, without being interviewed
with a one year contract. He comes back to ESR, again without being interviewed, as an experienced academician, a former pastoral leader and still a Benedictine oblate. The thread through all this is a call to ministry---broadly understood and a rootedness in contemplative spirituality. In so doing he ascribes to Thomas Merton’s conviction that contemplation is the highest expression of human intellectual and spiritual life

*Afternoon workshop*
October 16, 12:15-4 pm (*lunch included, RSVP requested)

“Innovating with Effectiveness, Leading with Integrity”

In a Post-Enron, economically depressed time and the global economic realities that characterize the 21st century all three segments of American life---profit, non-profit, and government--- have no choice but to be innovative and do that with integrity. The workshop focuses on the innovative process for imagining a viable future. Some attention will be given to the link between innovation and entrepreneurial activity and the connection to need for integrity to undergird the process.
