CRAFTSPEOPLE NEEDED!

West Richmond Friends Meeting and Richmond Friends School will be holding their annual UNICEF Carnival on November 10-11th from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.

Friends in our area began supporting UNICEF, the United Nations Children’s Fund, in the late 1950's. West Richmond member Alice Shaffer worked as Chief of the UNICEF Area Office for Central America from 1949-1966 and as UNICEF representative for Brazil from 1966-1969.

In the early days, children dressed in costume and went door-to-door “Trick-or-Treating” for UNICEF. Then they would come back to the meetinghouse for a meal and a few games. Starting in 1988, we decided to sponsor a carnival open to the public instead of trick-or-treating. The carnival includes games and educational activities for children, which are run by Richmond Friends School, and a craft sale run by West Richmond Friends. Both activities raise funds for UNICEF.

We are looking for craftspeople to sell crafts. Recent years have had tables selling wooden bowls, hand-made cards, Christmas ornaments, soaps, buttons and bumper stickers, beadwork, stained glass, baked goods, books and many other items. Sellers donate 15% of their sales to support UNICEF.

If you would like to have a table at the craft sale, please contact Joshua Brown (ESR ‘84), 962-4485 or e-mail josh@westrichmondfriends.org.
