Clergy Tax Seminar02/16/2009 - 10:00am The clergy tax seminar is coming up on Monday, February 16, 2008. It will be held in Bethany Center classroom 20 from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon and from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. The presenter will be Rev. Deb Oskin, a member at the Living Peace Church of the Brethren in Columbus, Ohio. Deb is a Master Tax Advisor (the highest level of certification) for H & R Block during tax season and an Enrolled Agent, the highest assessment of competence to represent clients before the IRS during audit proceedings. Deb has been doing clergy taxes for 20 years, ten of them professionally, and teaches an H & R Block three hour course on clergy taxation. During the first session, Deb will cover the theory of clergy and student taxes and during the afternoon session she will work through an example of a clergy tax return. For those who are licensed, ordained, recorded, or hoping to become so, come find out what happens when clergy and income taxes come face to face. Many students are impacted by these tax laws during their ministry formation or field education. Find out when you need to file quarterly taxes so that you won't have to pay any fines or penalties. Lack of information is not recognized by the IRS as a excuse to avoid taxes! If you are not able to attend the full seminar, you are welcome to come for a portion of it, although it will be harder for you to gain the best understanding of this complex topic. Students who are not able to be in Richmond, Indiana for this event may participate via web cast. Contact Enten Eller at Enten@bethanyseminary.edu or 765-983-1831 for more details. Please RSVP to let me know you are participating (via either format) so I can have enough handouts available. You can write to me at reishbr@bethanyseminary.edu or call me at 765-983-1804 to tell me you are coming. --
