Got old printer cartridges or batteries?

Remember to bring old batteries and printer cartridges to campus on Thursday! Throwing such things in the trash can release harmful chemicals into our soil and groundwater, and who wants that?! Some of these items can be reused, and all of them can be disposed of safely.
There will be a collection box in the Bethany gathering area or bring your toxic trash to the "More than just affordable computers" workshop on Thursday evening (http://twic.scs.earlham.edu/?q=node/623). Old batteries will be recycled through the Clear Creek Food Co-op, and Rosa's Office Supplies will donate to the Cope Environmental Center for every printer cartridge we bring them. Give your trash to a higher purpose!

Service of Worship

The Bethany Board of Trustees, Faculty and Candidates for Graduation wish to invite the community to attend a Service of Worship to celebrate the 102nd Annual Commencement on Saturday, May 5, at 2:30 p.m. at the Richmond Church of the Brethren, One Southwest 17th Street. Dena Pence will be speaking. No tickets are needed. A reception will be held at the Church following the service.

"Deep Listening" at Bethany on May 15

Bethany Theological Seminary will present "Deep Listening", a play about palliative care, death and dying, performed by Lisa Wagner of Still Point Theatre Collective of Chicago, Illinois. The Collective is dedicated to creating performances, workshops, retreats and events that raise consciousness on issues of peace and justice.

Ms. Wagner, founder of the Collective, lived at a homeless shelter for people with HIV/AIDS for two years. Inspired by this experience, Wagner commissioned Teresa Weed to create "Deep Listening". The play has been performed at health care facilities, conferences, schools and conventions.

Stretch our minds in class, then stretch the rest......movement through yoga

May 22 & 24, Judy Hollandsworth (MDiv Connections student), will be leading a time of stretching, using yoga techniques. This will take place on Tuesday and Thursday at 1:30 in the gathering room. Wear comfortable clothing suitable for stretching and which enables free movement.

Greetings and welcome back!
One of the fun traditions that Bethany has is to have a Bethany Bash! This is an opportunity for current students to meet the new students who have joined our community. This year, we will be watching an outdoor movie at my house! We will have pizza provided, courtesy of Student Leadership Team, and ask that if you are coming, that you bring either a snack/dessert or a drink. We are asking that you arrive at 8:00 and encourage you to reconnect and work on beginning other relationships. We will be watching Night at the Museum. So, let me put it this way:

Parking is street parking, which means that it is sort of limited. So, I would encourage you to carpool, walk or bike here. So, here are some directions, since not everyone knows where I live:

Leaving from the Front Door of the Seminary (The one on route 40)
Make a right on 40 and proceed to the light in the Left Turn lane
At the light make a left onto NW 5th Street
Proceed 5 blocks and make a right on Randolph Street
Half way down the block, on the right side of the street, is 415 Randolph Street.

If you get lost, call my cell phone (717 817 8726). I will affix something to point out the place so that you can see it easily.

Memorial Service for Ella Brewer

Ella Brewer, who was both cook and housekeeper at ESR was hired by Wil Cooper in the very early days of the seminary. Also known as mentor and friend, she retired in 1978 and was most fondly remembered by one and all as the "Queen" of ESR.

Keith Esch and Tom Mullen will be present to lead the service to honor the memory of Ella, who passed away in September at the age of 98.

The Bethany Board of Trustees will be meeting October 26-28 at the Bethany Center. Please join us in welcoming them to campus.

The opening session of the Board begins at 5 p.m. on Friday in Room 40; the general session on Saturday begins at 1:30 p.m. These meetings are open. Bethany students are invited to lunch with Board members on Friday. There is a sign-up sheet on the bulletin board in the Gathering Area if you are available to join them. There will also be opportunities to talk with them at the various breaks. The Board schedule is posted on the bulletin board.

Earlham School of Religion's 16th annual Ministry of Writing Colloquium is Friday and Saturday, October 26-27. Haven Kimmel, an ESR alum and author of the #1 New York Times bestselling memoir, "A Girl Named Zippy", is the keynote speaker. Other presenters are poet Maurice Manning, nonfiction writers, Brent Bill and Howard Macy, and editors/writers Katie Terrell and Amy Lyles Wilson. Corn Maze and Bonfire

Join folks from the Bethany community for some fall harvest fun on Friday October 26th. We will begin at 7pm by making a trip to the giant corn maze at Today's Harvest Farm , located about one mile east of the Indiana state line on U.S. Highway 40. The people at the farm are giving us a great discounted rate of only $5 per person!

Around 9pm we'll head to Haley and Joanna's house for a bonfire. There will be light refreshments provided at the bonfire. (You may want to bring a folding chair along with you.) If you can't come to both activities, come to whichever you can! For those that need transportation or would like to carpool we will meet at the large parking lot behind the Bethany center (NOT the one on U.S. 40) at 6:45. Students, faculty, staff, family, and friends are all invited to attend. We look forward to seeing you there!

Earlham College invited Kevin D. Dougherty, PH.D Professor of Sociology, Baylor University to present at the EC convocation on Weds, February 27 at 1 pm. Dr. Dougherty presents new research on American beliefs and values and looks at past debates regarding how religion fits into public life. ESR is welcome and its free.
